Who we are
Strickland and Holt is an independent, family run store.
Fondly known as Strickies by many of the locals we have been part of this town for over a century.
Strickies is situated in the very heart of the beautiful Georgian town of Yarm-on-Tees. Yarm is known for its unique/independent small shops and restaurants .
With a long family history in the town it has developed since 1854 into the institution it is today. Open the door and you will find, like a Tardis, there is much more to see than you would expect.
The aim is to bring unusual and well designed gifts, toys and fashions to the North East. We are adapting to the modern world, the global economy and hope to be able to swim rather than sink with the help of our faithful customers.
What we do
If you come to Yarm, Strickies has to be on the list of places to visit!
Whether you are five years old or ninety-five years old there will be something to feast your eyes on! Known as a treasure trove of delights we offer a welcoming and unique experience.
As you step through the door you will find a huge selection of cards
Spend time choosing whilst the children get lost finding something to spend their pocket money on then move on to find the perfect gift, whether it be a soft toy, a puzzle, stationary, jewellery or something for the home. It looks like you may have everything you need for that special gift! You are certain to find something for whoever you are looking for.
You may of course be looking for something for yourself don't forget to pop into our fashion department and Liz and Ali will be on hand to find you that new outfit!
Oh and yes! If you need to send that gift further afield, you can buy a card, gift wrap and the product, tell us what to write and we'll do the rest!
Time for tea?
Weave your way past the toys and cards to the gift and fashion departments. The coffee shop is at the back of the shop when you need reviving. We make all our own cakes, meals, breads, scones on the premises to eat in or takeaway.

Did you know we have been here since 1854?
Forever evolving to meet the needs of our customers we remain a family business, owned by John Holt’s great-niece, Stephanie Richardson, and managed by Paddy Morton. Upstairs, Stephanie's son Sam is running our new Designer Maker space, Strickies Creative Hub.

Beyond our car park, the River Tees rolls lazily past the ghosts of wharves where our founders unloaded their wines, spirits and other imported goods.
And after you’ve had your fill of us, you might savour a stroll along the river or sample some of the other delights of this gem of a town – we are lucky to have fantastic fellow independent retailers on the High Street.
